The science of Astronomy and mathematics was well developed in India when in ancient

Europe,people did not know the use and existence of zero.You can imagine how difficult

it will be  to even count large numbers without the help of zero.The numbers used by the ancient Romans

were symbols or letters that stood for certain

numbers.for example V was, X was 10 and C was 100.

           Then in 10th century the Indian system of numbers along with the use of decimals and
zeroes reached the Europe.In this system,a digit stands for a different number depending on its
place in the number. For instance, the 2 in 200 would be just 2 and 120 is just 12. That is why

India's contribution to the world in the field of mathematics is’zero’ and is most important.
