Who created the grand canyon?
Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon, one of the most spectacular natural wonders on Earth,is situated
in Arizona,U.S.A.It is a broad beautifully created chasm, between the outer walls of which
can be seen imposing peaks and buttes, rocks and ravines. Its vastness and color are so imposing
that the visitors are wonderstruck. At the some points it appears like a magic city of rock, with temples, towers, and castles of dazzling color.
Discovery of the Grand Canyon was made by members of the Coronado expedition
in 1540.Two Spanish priests rediscovered it in 1776.In 1919,The Grand Canyon National park
was formed around the most beautiful and interesting area of this Canyon.Millions of visitors
come to see this great wonder every year.
The Grand Canyon was created due to the flow of the Colorado river which has cut this
huge gorge through thousands of years. The studies shows that the rocks of this canyon reveal
great deal of Geological history. All the processes of Earth building are exemplified here.In
some areas, the gorge of the Grand Canyon is more than a mile deep and is from four to
eighteen miles wide. The river Colorado continues to flow deep below and to cut deeper
into the already deep gorge.
Down the bottom of the gorge, ancient rocks are exposed. In the sedimentary rocks, plants
and animal fossils are found in abundance. These range from primitive algae in the lower strata
to trees in the upper strata and from seashells and trilobites to the remains of dinosaurs, camels, horses. The fossils prove that the great seas once rushed over these rocks.
